Bio/CV of Casey Luskin
As stated on the home page, the purpose of this site is not to create some narcissistic URL with my name, but rather to attempt to have a little quality control over what people find if they search for me. In that regard, below is a short bio and CV for me:
I am a scientist and an attorney, and hold graduate degrees in science and law. My B.S. and M.S. are in earth sciences from the University of California at San Diego, where I studied geology and evolution extensively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. (I also minored in history.) My master's thesis focused on the paleomagnetism of the Snake River Plain in southern Idaho.
Since 2005 I have been a California-licensed attorney, having earned a law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law, where my studies focused on First Amendment law, education law, and environmental law. I also formerly conducted geological research at Scripps Institution for Oceanography.
In 2001, I co-founded the Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness (IDEA) Center, a non-profit helping students to investigate intelligent design (ID) by starting "IDEA Clubs" on college and high school campuses worldwide.
From 2005-2015 I worked for Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture, first as Program Officer in Public Policy and Legal Affairs (2005-2010), and then as Research Coordinator (2011-2015). In these roles, I assisted and defended scientists, educators, and students seeking to freely study, research, and teach about the scientific debate over neo-Darwinian evolution and ID. As explained here, as of December 31, 2015, I no longer work as a staff member at Discovery Institute as I am pursuing the goal of furthering my studies.
Some of my publications have appeared in technical law and science journals and other scholarly journals, including Journal of Church and State; Montana Law Review; Hamline Law Review; Liberty University Law Review; University of St. Thomas Journal of Law & Public Policy; and Geochemistry, Geophysics, and Geosystems (G3). I have also co-authored or contributed to multiple books.
My special interests include geology, science education, biological origins, and environmental protection. My wife and I enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking, sailing, and other outdoor activities.
